Quadratics

What are Quadratics?

A quadratic relation or function is a polynomial relation that is of the second degree. It has many forms but the standard form of a quadratic is represented by the equation y = ax2 + bx + c

The study of quadratic relations, functions, and equations is rich and deep. We use quadratics to model many real life situations, from the path of a ball that is thrown, to profit and revenue, to area and much, much more.

At Lulumath, we study quadratics by looking at their key features (the axis of symmetry, the vertex, the y-intercept, and the roots) and by looking at the parent function and the transformations on it that make the graphs we will look at.

We learn to solve quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. We also use these skills to study real life applications that involve quadratics. It’s some exciting stuff!
